Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) was jointly developed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Statistics New Zealand in order to make it easier to compare industry statistics between the two countries and with the rest of the world.
It is common for Pathways customers to need to provide some reporting of their Host Employers using a sub-set of the ANZSIC Code list. As such Pathways provides the ability to link an ANZSIC code to a Host Employer, and includes a handy search tool to make it easy to find the correct code.
Note: It's common for government or funding bodies to define a sub-set of ANZSIC codes they wish to be used for reporting, so whilst Pathways supports all the codes, you may find that depending on your own reporting needs, you only need to use ~10 of them.
Host Employers have One ANZSIC Code Only
Unlike Industry Groups and Areas of Study in Pathways, a Host Employer will only ever have a single ANZSIC Code, as defined by the ABR. The code should be selected that best describes the main business activity, especially if the organisation works in multiple industries. For example, if 60% of the employees work in one section of the organisation, the day-to-day duties of this section would be the main activity.
Pathways ANZSIC Search Tool
To make it easy to link an ANZSIC Code to a Host, we have included a search tool that allows you to optionally filter the ANZSIC Code List (~500 items) by Division/Sub-Division/Group etc. You can also search by code (4 digits) or class description. It's common when referring to the "ANZSIC Code" for an organisation to be referring to the Industry Class value (4 digit number).
